The 2004 season is right around the corner. I'm planning on changing over to a 383 SBC this year.

My goals for the season are; Getting the car consistent, averaging .525 lights, and keeping the car running in the upper 10's in the quarter and in the mid to high 6's in the eight mile. I want to win at least 3 races and win over $1000 without breaking any major parts.

Working on building a SBC 383 for 2004. Here is some of the parts and information I have so far.

SBC 383 Build-up

I'm not sure if I should install the cam straight up or advance it 2 or 4 degrees. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I want to have the low end torque off the line and still have some top end hourse power to get a good mph.

I'm looking at shifting around 7000 and crossing the strip around 7200. The car is a 81 Chevy Malibu, weight with driver is 3100 lbs.

Engine:

1979 350 - 010 4 Bolt block.
Eagle 4340 Crank 3.75 stoke (35037505700) with Eagle 6" H-beam Rods

Ross Forged Pistons (13:1) Part# 99559

Top Proline 235 Alum. Heads 64cc gasket matched to 1206 and the pockets cleaned up - Retainers are Titanium standard height, 10 degree locks, standard height Comp Cams locks and the springs are 917 Comp Cam 200lb's at 1.8", the install height is 1.85, the seat pressure should still be 190lb's. These springs have a coil bind of 1.050" so there is a total of .800 thousands, these would actually work with up to a .740 lift cam. Open spring pressure at 1.100" is 600lb's.

First time out with the new engine I won my first race of the year and the car ran a best ever 6.687 and 102.49 mph. And that's with my 750 Carb on it. Should have the 1050 Dominator next week. I will put the dyno numbers on here soon.
